The Founder - Master Arthur Levitan
After practicing the Eastern Arts for more than 20 years in the United States, Arthur traveled to China to learn from masters there. In the process, he received a mandate from one of the oldest Taoist temples in China, Qingcheng Mountain, to build a temple in California to bring the clarity of the Ancient East to the modern Western world. In special ceremony at Qingcheng Mountain shrine, Arthur was recognized as a true Master by the head Abbess Zhang Mingxin and given official permission to build our Temple. And so California Tao began.
"Those who seek as many followers as possible are what Lao Tzu calls “social sages.” I’m not interested in that. Finding the right people is much more important to me than finding the most people. Just because you want to learn Tao doesn’t mean I’m the right person to teach it to you. As Lao Tzu says, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.”
I can only teach others because I’ve lived it myself. In my life, I’ve made decisions based on faulty information that nearly cost my family, my business, and my life. The only thing that got me through it all was Tao, the only truth I know in this world is Tao, and all I have to offer you is Tao. This isn't right for everyone. But it might be right for you."
